Can Steve Bruce Maintain Newcastle’s Premier Status

Newcastle United have opened their 2019/20 Premier League season with two consecutive defeats and new manager Steve Bruce is already feeling the pressure .

Defeats against Arsenal in the opening game and away to Norwich last weekend mean the Geordies are holding up the table and the calls for him to be sacked have well and truly begun.

Newcastle fans expect the very best from their club and were left devastated when Rafa Benitez left in the summer after comfortably keeping Newcastle in the Premier League for two seasons on a shoestring budget by modern standards . Benitez was idolised on Tyneside and it was always going to be hugely difficult for anyone to step into his shoes.

Bruce was not a popular appointment , chiefly because he has previous association with arch rivals having successfully managed the Black Cats from 2009-2011 .

This coming weekend the Magpies are away at Spurs , a fixture they will find it very difficult to gain any points so the pressure on Bruce is likely to increase in the short term .

Newcastle are now the bookie’s favourite to be relegated from the Premier League alongside Sheffield United and Norwich and it is difficult to see those odds being far out at the moment.

Football predictions on all Premier League markets are very difficult of course and there are many games to come for Bruce to get his side into a more cohesive unit and make the most from the new signings from the summer spending spree approved by controversial owner Mike Ashley .

In total Newcastle spent £65M this summer and also brought in Andy Carrol on a season long loan from West Ham .

With Joelinton having joined the club for a record £40M the fans will expect goals from him and If Carrol can stay fit then the chances of Newcastle staying up and Bruce keeping his job will be dramatically increased.
