With the news that Sam Allardyce is close to being appointed as the new manager at Everton, the big question is whether or not he is the right man to lead them away from trouble at the bottom of the Premier League?
Though there have been reports linking Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca to the job, Allardyce is still the big favourite with the bookmakers.
The Toffee’s have been without a permanent manager since Ronald Koeman was sacked on 23 October following a 2-5 defeat to Arsenal at Goodison Park, which left the club in the relegation zone.
David Unsworth has been caretaker manager ever since though he has only won once in seven matches. There have been a few embarrassments recently too, including a 1-5 loss against Atalanta and a 4-1 loss at Southampton on Sunday.
If Allardyce is to take over, Andy Bell from freebets.org says that odds of 6/1 for Everton to be relegated should be avoided as Allardyce has never lead a team to finish in the Premier League drop zone.
Former Sunderland, Bolton and England manager Allardyce was in talks to take over at Everton in early November but reportedly withdrew from contention after he was not given an offer. It would appear that the 63 year-old is back in with a big shout though as attempts to lure Marco Silva from Watford seem to have failed.
Considering Everton currently sit 17th in the Premier League, just 2 points above the relegation zone, Allardyce may be the right man to make sure the Merseyside club are still playing in the top flight next season. If he gets the job, he will organise the defence and make the team a lot harder to beat.
Fans may not be impressed with the style of play, but if it gets results I’m sure they will not mind too much. A manager like Sam Allardyce may be exactly what Everton need right now.
